Hosiden has developed an ultra-low reflectance touch panels for automotive applications which realizes an industry-leading external light reflectance of just 0.4%.
Center console displays in automotive applications are now widely used for various display purposes such as map displays for car navigation, music or video content display, air-conditioner adjustment, and numerous setup and configuration screens. As autonomous vehicles become more common, even higher functionalities, ever greater functionality, with better display visibility will be required, resulting in the need for touch panel type displays with low internal and external light reflectance.
Conventional capacitive touch panels usually use ITO sensors, whereas this newly developed product uses a blackened Ag mesh sensor with ultra-low reflectance, and realizes this low reflectance by optimizing the optical design of the component materials such as the cover glass and the use of OCA (Optical Clear Adhesive). This contributes to the reduced reflectance which has been a significant challenge in conventional capacitive touch panel design. The result is improved visibility because of minimal interference from external light. The product has high touch-sensitivity, a feature made possible because of its metal mesh sensor, and also suppresses the occurrence of colored interference patterns which are visible when polarized sunglasses are being used to view the panel, realizing comfortable operability and excellent visibility.
