Hosiden has concluded a development contract with Ultraleap Limited (England) for mid-air haptic technology.
Mid-air haptic technology is a technology expected to be applied in the next-generation of HMI (Human Machine Interface). In conjunction with Ultraleap Limited, Hosiden will embark on mass production of products utilizing the technology.
The mid-air haptics developed by Ultraleap Limited allows the formation of haptic sensations representing various sizes and shapes of objects in the air, which gives the operators an operational feeling quite different from that obtained from conventional non-contact operation. This can realize “eyes-free operation in mid-air” that allows drivers to drive without seeing the operation panels in automotive HMI.
Hosiden will combine its long-established automotive HMI device technologies mainly for its touch panels, as well as mass production expertise with this mid-air haptic technology, to further enhance the application of this innovative technology to various products in addition to automotive, such as ticket kiosks, rest rooms, elevators, and ATMs.
A technology to generate haptic sensations in the air without touching the device,
by means of focused ultrasound output from multiple compact ultrasonic speakers.
